psycho-spiritual therapy

"... a wide-ranging area of practice that integrates spirituality, psycho-education, mental health, wellness, religion, pathology and human development principles for the purpose of the assessment, treatment and meaning-making of cognitive, emotional, spiritual, relational, behavioural, identity, educational, moral or developmental disturbances and challenges across all stages of the human life cycle."

The Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC) defines psycho-spiritual therapy as:
Most traditional counselling and psychotherapy will address an individual’s mental-emotional (psychological) self and mood. Psycho-spiritual therapy expands this to include psycho-spiritual dimensions; engaging a higher consciousness in the interests of understanding, healing and empowering oneself, within the context of a greater whole.
Psycho-spiritual therapists integrate spirituality into psychological work as it is relevant to the client's intentions and within the context of a respectful, trust-based therapeutic relationship that becomes a collaborative partnership. Along with counselling and psychotherapy theories, our work may be informed by sociology, anthropology, philosophy, ethics, human diversity and relevant religious or wisdom traditions.
