life transitions

Life inevitably presents us with episodes of significant change throughout our journey. Take a look at the list below; we’re likely to face many of these challenges throughout a single lifetime. Such times of transition — when we’re leaving behind what was, and stepping into something new — often arise outside of our control, leading us to feel powerless, helpless and sometimes desperate.  Even when willingly chosen, such times can be overwhelming and stressful, sometimes facing us with parts of ourselves that are underdeveloped or usually hidden.

Counselling is a great way to help yourself successfully navigate these tricky transitions. Together we’ll get to the bottom of what’s really going on in you, and find healthy ways for you to respond to what you’re facing, and to grow from, your experiences. In the process, you’ll develop a greater sense of self-awareness and increased resilience. You’ll learn more about who you are and who you are becoming, and you’ll discover ways to ‘be okay’ in the midst of difficulty; practical self-knowledge and skills that set you up to successfully surf the waves of life when next they arise.

Examples of major life transitions include:

  • adolescence

  • finding your way into, or through, university or college

  • partnering or marriage

  • career or vocation choices and changes

  • relocating or immigrating

  • having children or not having children

  • de-coupling or divorce

  • a midlife crisis

  • menopause

  • illness and recovery

  • retirement

  • ageing

  • preparing for death.
